Jon MacDonald joined Kairos in 2024 as its Chief Legal Officer.

Before joining Kairos, Mr. MacDonald served as general counsel for real estate investment, development, and financing companies and transactional real estate attorney for law firms.

Most recently, Mr. MacDonald was a member of the real estate department at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP beginning in 2022.  He advised clients on a broad array of portfolio and single asset acquisitions, dispositions, development projects, and joint venture, financing, and restructuring transactions across asset classes, including multifamily, office, retail, hotels/resorts, and mixed-use projects throughout the United States.  Mr. MacDonald started his career with Paul Hastings LLP practicing transactional real estate law.

From 2009 to 2022, Mr. MacDonald served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Fairfield Residential, a multifamily and mixed-use investment and development company. He was responsible for managing the legal affairs of Fairfield, including transactional, operational, and litigation matters. Mr. MacDonald was responsible for leading and overseeing all transactional matters for Fairfield, focusing on large scale multifamily and mixed-use acquisitions and development projects across the United States, including navigating pre-development risks and challenges, leading joint venture transactions, and overseeing financing transactions.

From 2005 to 2009, Mr. MacDonald served in a variety of capacities for Downey Financial Corp., including General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, and Corporate Secretary. He also served as President of Downey’s real estate development company and as a member of its board of directors.

He earned his Juris Doctor from Duke University and Bachelor’s degree from Boston College, where he graduated magna cum laude.
